Got up at
6:30. Enjoyed viewing magnificent morning glow beyond the open valley on the
east of rise where Crooked Spur hut situates.
As soon as started at 8:15, a
climb towards the pass went on. Arrived at top of the pass (1,500m) at 9:30. Not much snow left on both north and south sides of hillsides. Had a pleasant
walk with no risky sections under the fine weather with strong wind. Walked
down the hill and arrived at Stone hut at midday sharp.
Started drizzling while
having a long lunch break here in the hut, but luckily it stopped and blue sky
spread above me when started to walk at 13:15. The way up to the Royal hut
where to stay tonight included numerous Bush Creek crossings just like
yesterday. Was not as tough as yesterday because it was only knee deep and no rapids
in upstream.
Arrived at the hut at 15:00. There was a rumour that this hut was
named as Royal hut as Prince Charles and Princess Ann visited when they were
very young... sounds pretty doubtful. Must be an urban (rural?) legend?! Soon
it started drizzling again and wind got stronger. Will go over Stack Pass
(1,925m), the highest point of TA, tomorrow. Hoping a good weather to come,
went to bed at 22:00. Walked 6.75 hours, 15.5km.
6:30起き。高台にあるクルークド・スパー小屋は東の方に谷が開けていて、鮮やかな朝焼けを楽しんだ後、8:15に出発。
いきなり峠へ向かっての登りが続く。9:30に標高1,500mの峠に到着。雪は北川・南側斜面共にほとんど残っていない。風は強いものの天気は良く、特に危険箇所もない、楽しんで歩ける下り斜面を下り、正午ちょうどにストーン小屋に着いた。ここで長めの昼食休憩を取っている間に小雨が降り出したものの、幸い13:15に出発した時には止み、また青空に。
そこから今晩の宿ロイヤル小屋までの間は、また昨日同様ブッシュ・クリークを右へ左へと渡渉しながら上流へ向かう。さすがのブッシュ・クリークもここまで上流になるとせいぜい膝上ぐらいの深さしかなく、ためらうような水流もない。
15:00に山小屋着。何でもチャールズ皇太子とアン王女が幼少時にここを訪れたという噂があり、そのためロイヤル小屋と名付けられたらしいが、都市伝説（田舎伝説？）の類だろうか？非常に疑わしい。一息ついているとまた小雨が降り出し、風もどんどん強まってきた。明日はTAの行程中、最高標高地点となるスタッグ峠（1,925m）越えの日。好天を祈りながら22:00就寝。本日の歩行6時間45分、15.5km。
