Got up at 5:00, and started at 6:45 as it will be rainy in the
afternoon. Because blisters on foot getting worse these days and trail going
through the farmlands and on the road most of the way today, decided to walk in
a pair of Keen sandals. Trail in the farm has been closed during winter season,
but was luckily to be in time for the reopening due to the delay caused by
unluckiness. Unexpectedly the farm track was really tricky with few track signs
and very difficult to find a way. A binocular that
I carried for birdwatching was very helpful. Last half of the track was a
lovely walkway along Kerikeri River with nice spots like Rainbow falls and
Stone Store. In Kerikeri, went to a sport shop to buy a replacement of broken
buckle of hip strap of the pack, and a pharmacy to buy a bandage for blisters.
Stayed at Hone Heki Lodge. They had a special for TA walkers: complimentary
bath towel and washing powder! Cooked big dinner with lots of salad. Fine weather
during the day tuned to pouring rain from 18:30. Walked 26km.
