Got up
at 5:30 to get myself ready for a big long day with lots of up & downhills. Started at 6:45 with a daybreak. Soon beautiful morning glows in the sky made
Mt Travers in front rosy. Being overwhelmed by grand views of towering rocky mountains
nearby and Travers Falls, walked towards Travers Pass (1,787m) with plenty of
snow. There were no ricky sections but knee deep snow on the track in some
spots with chilly & strong wind: wasn't able to stay there for long. Walked
down long and steep hill from the pass, worrying about left ankle getting sore
again.
Arrived at West Sabine Hut at 13:00 earlier than expected and had a long
lunch break for 45 minutes. Walked the last steep uphill for today. Several red
warning signs along the track told there are numerous avalanche paths in this
area. Walked through mossy forest like a Japanese garden, Blue Lake hut where I
will stay turned up on a way. As soon as arriving at the hut at 16:15, walked
up to the lake.
The Blue Lake, whose transparency is world No.1 as a fresh
water lake (70-80m), had a peaceful and blue appearance as name tells. Took
some pics inside of the lake by my water-proof camera. There was only myself to
stay in the hut. Being relaxed, had a nice talk with Fernanda, a volunteer hut
warden from Argentine. Went to bed at 23:00. Walked 9.5 hours, 22km.
