Got up at
7:00. Wandered around to find a place for breaky without success, and had porridge
that I had in my pack. Checked out the backpackers at 10:00, but was allowed to
leave my pack and use guest facility there. Walked a bit further to buy lunch
and back to the accommodation to eat and use internet.
Went to the Intercity coach terminal,
doing shopping at a supermarket for a last food supply like cheese, salami, etc
on a way. Got on the coach for Picton. Was supposed to leave at 14:30 on
schedule, but actually left at 14:10 which was a way earlier. Stopped at
Cheviot and Kaikoura, and arrived at Picton after 20:30 in the dark.
In Kaikoura, saw remains of the landslides on the mountains, and came across restricted traffic sections due to road works after the earthquake. Though I knew it, it was shocking when seeing. Stayed at Atlantis Backpackers in Picton. Their dorm was "indoor camping style" and hence it was cheap ($20/night/person). The room was to be shared with 12, and needed a sleeping bag as no pillow and blanket provided. Guest service was very good: free PC for internet, free dessert at 19:00 (has finished when I arrived), free continental breaky at 8:00, and 10% accommodation discount for TA walkers. Was impressive to see 4 ex-stray cats and a dog were roaming in the room. Went to bed at 23:00.
7:00起床。朝食を買うため、周辺を30程歩き回ったが目ぼしい店が見当らず、手持ちのオートミール・ポリッジで適当に済ませた。10:00にチェックアウト。宿で荷物を預かってくれ、共用施設も引き続き自由に使って良いとのことだったので、少し遠くまで足を伸ばして昼食を買い、宿でインターネットを使ったりしながらのんびり食べた後、インターシティのバス乗り場へ移動。
スーパーでサラミやチーズ等、最後の食料買出しを済ませて、ピクトン行きのバスに乗車した。14:30出発のはずがかなり早い14:10発車。シェビオット、カイコウラでの休憩を挟み、ピクトンに到着したのは真っ暗になった20:30過ぎ。
途中、カイコウラ周辺の国道1号線沿いは、まだまだ地震の被害からの復旧工事が盛んに行れていて交通規制区間も多く、周囲の山々にも地滑りの跡がたくさん見られ、情報としては知っていてもやはりショックだった。ピクトンではアトランティス・バックパッカーズに宿を取る。「インドアキャンピング」がコンセプトだそうで、$20と安いが布団、枕はなく、自分の寝袋で寝る。12人の相部屋、しかしパソコンは無料で使え、19:00から無料のデザート（自分が到着した時には既に終了）、8:00からは無料の朝食（トーストとミューズリ）が付き、TAウォーカーは宿泊が1割引になるなど、サービスはとても良い。元野良だったという猫が4匹、犬が1匹、自由に室内を歩き回っていたのが印象的だった。23:00就寝。
