Thought
sleeping in this morning, as it was a short day today due to a bad weather
approaching and location of accommodation I would stay tonight. But woke up before
6:00 naturally, and got up by 6:30 as usual.
Suddenly began to rain heavily
from 7:00, and spent my time watching telly and reading. Rain stopped at 8:30,
started packing and left the cabin at 9:00. Was troubled walking on a soft sand
beach to the next town Riverton. On the beach horseshoe crab shells like things
were washed up, and later found it was a kind of seaweed.
The storm raged for
30mins, and arrived at Riverton after midday. Checked in at Riverton Lodge
Hotel at $25/night. Took a hot shower to warm my body chilled to the bone. Was
the only guest today again and offered a double room. The owners Murray and
Fiona were very friendly and warm-hearted people. Had a very pleasant and
comfortable afternoon sitting by the fire Murray lit for me in the adjacent pub.
Surprised the pub closed early and they went home by 20:00! No matter how quiet
the season was, it was very different from Queenstown. Went to bed at 23:00. Walked 3 hours 15 minutes, 14km.
今日は町の間隔の兼ね合いと悪天候の予報のため、短い距離しか歩かないので、朝ゆっくりしようかと思っていたが、6:00前から目覚め6:30には起床してしまった。しかし7時頃から突然本降りの雨となり、テレビを見たり読書したりしてのんびり準備。
幸い8:30には止んだので荷作りし、9:00に宿を出た。隣町リバートンまでは主に浜辺のルートだったが、思いの外歩きにくい軟らかい砂浜で困った。ふと見ると、カブトガニの甲羅のようなものが時々打ち上げられている。よく観察すると、どうやら海藻の一種のようだった。
その後30分ほど暴風雨に見舞われ、12:00過ぎにリバートンに到着。すぐにリバートン・ロッジ・ホテルに＄25で投宿し、シャワーを浴びて冷え切った体を温めた。昨日同様宿泊客は自分一人で、ダブルベッドの個室をあてがわれた。オーナーのマリーさんとフィオナさんは気さくで温かい人柄。併設のパブでマリーさんが起こしてくれた暖炉にあたりながら、とても心地よい午後を過ごした。しかしパブが早々に閉店し、2人とも8:00には帰宅してしまったのにはびっくり。いくら閑散期とはいえ、クイーンズタウンとの違いを今更ながら強く感じた。23:00就寝。本日の歩行3時間15分、14km。
