A beautiful autumn day since 1 week ago.  A freezing morning and the muddy section were frozen hard today.

Walked the 4WD road track cover by frost like ice needles around the lake.  Passed a campsite, crossed a swing bridge and walked down a pleasant walking track through mountain beech forest. Mossy ground along the track was beautiful.  Most of the walk today was in the forest with no sun.  A sunny day, but was cold and gloves and a hat needed all day.  If only I could save this fine weather till the day I will attempt the Takitimu Mountains.

From the bridge on my way, saw Mararoa river that I will walk across tomorrow.  Looked deeper than anticipated due to the snow melt.  A hunter I came across on my way said to me it was deep and hard to walk across.  Will be safer to walk back the same way a bit and cross this bridge again tomorrow. Arrived at Kiwi Burn hut at 15:00.  Decided to get up early next morning and went to bed at early at 21:00.  Walked 7.25 hours, 27km.
