Saw the
ground was entirely covered by frost when getting up in the morning.
Started at
8:30. Intense coldness instantly made my fingers and toes sore, and took me
about 30 minutes to warm up after having walked at full speed. Track went through
the beech forest most of the way, and occasionally saw cows grazing in paddocks
after walking across the fence.
Since 2 days ago, yellow track markers have
been seen along the track and it made me wonder what they were for... got to
know they seemed to be the ones for horse riders. Completed the walk at 11:45.
Walked up to State Highway 7 to hitch a ride to Hammer Springs, the nearest town from
here (55km away) for food supply. After 1 hour of trial, a US couple living in
Christchurch gave me a ride to the junction 9km away from the town centre. Had
a late lunch there at the cafe, and did another try.
After 15 minutes, a Belgian
old lady living in Hammer Springs gave me a ride to Hammer Backpackers in town. Costed me
$31/night including premium during school holiday season. Price included use of
a massage chair(!) in the communal area - used it with appreciation.
Washed
all my clothing by washing machine and went food shopping for next 1 week at a
supermarket. Unluckily didn't have enough time to go to thermal pools. In the
evening rang Chiharu after 6 days for a catchup and weather forecast. Went to
bed at 0:00. Waked 3.25 hours, 13.5km.
