Started at 7:00 to be in time to cross a river at 8:30 low tide. Arrived
at the crossing point that Peter the manager of the campsite told me yesterday
at 8:15. Walked across thigh deep Okura river. On the opposite side, the
crossing section was the only rocky area. Tried to walked down east bank of the
beach following TA route after the rocky area. When getting down from the rock
on to the beach, my foot was stuck in calf deep mud and struggled to get it out. When looking
around, muddy mangrove bush went on all the way and it looked almost
impassible. Had no other choice than going back to the rocky area and walked on
the road making a large detour to Torbay, then back on to TA. Walked up and
down the beach and points along the shore line heading to Devonport. Became not
easy to walk as the tide was getting high.
Got on a ferry from Devonport to
central Auckland (paid $6.50). Called in Metro Adventure Backpackers when I
stayed on 01/09 to collect my other luggage, and back to the port. Got on a
ferry again to Half Moon Bay (paid $10), and was picked up by my friend Mami
Yamagami. With their 3 kids had a lively dinner at her place. Actual TA goes
through downtown Auckland taking 2 days. I got a tip from Peter yesterday about
cutting short by 1 day changing landing point. In the last minute I changed my
plan to do this way, as my friends' place was close to Half Moon Bay. Walked
32km today.
今日はまた渡渉があり、干潮が8:30なのでそれに合わせて7:00に出発。昨日キャンプ場マネージャーのピーターに教えられた渡河地点に8:15に到着、太腿位の深さのオクラ川を渡った。対岸は渡河地点の辺りだけが岩場で、そこからTAのルート通り海辺沿いに行こうと、岩場から降りた途端ふくらはぎ位の深さの泥に埋まり、足が抜けなくなって困った。見ると延々マングローブ林の泥池が続いており、歩行は不可能に近い。仕方なく岩場に戻り、そこから道路に上陸して大きく迂回してトーベイの辺りからTAに復帰した。その後はデヴォンポートまで東の海岸性を登ったり下ったりしながら進んだが、潮が満ちてくるに従いどんどん歩きにくくなった。
デヴォンポートから$6.50でフェリーに乗り、オークランドの中心街へ。そしてそこから9月1日に泊まったメトロ・アドベンチャー・バックパッカーズに行き、預けてあった荷物を受け取り再び港へ。今度は$10でハーフムーンベイまで船で移動し、迎えに来てくれた友人、山上マミさんの自宅へ。3人の子供たちに囲まれ、久々にとても賑やかな食卓となった。本来のTAコースはオークランドの町の中心部を通り、2日間にわたり市街地を抜けていくが、それを上陸地点を変更することで一日短縮するアイディアは、やはり前日ピーターから提案されたもので、ちょうど友人の家がハーフムーンベイから近かったこともあり、急遽変更した次第である。本日の歩行32km。
